Dee Dillon Field was the venue for the Centex Champsβ annual βCHAMPSβ game on April 10, bringing together athletes and families from the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor (ΞήΒλΑχ³φ) and special needs communities for one of the springβs most cherished events.
Centex Champs is a local softball organization based in Belton, consisting of four teams made up of athletes with special needs. The event kicked off with the younger teams (ages 5β12) playing at 6:30 p.m., followed by the older teams (13 and older) taking the field at 7:30 p.m.
Scott Yearwood, who represents the Centex Champs and the Special Needs community on the Belton Youth Softball Association board, pitched for all four teams. Each athlete was given the opportunity to hit a home run, making the night even more special.
βThis is a great event. We love coming out here, especially with ΞήΒλΑχ³φ being in our backyard,β said Yearwood. βIt's a big deal β we call it our All-Star game because this is where we get to celebrate our athletes. They get to come out here and get their medals when they cross home plate.β
The basepaths and outfield were lined with student-athletes from ΞήΒλΑχ³φ, with members of the Cru Menβs and Womenβs Soccer, Softball, and Football teams coming out to cheer on the Champs as they rounded the bases, creating an electric and heartwarming atmosphere.
ΞήΒλΑχ³φ students and faculty also filled the stands alongside friends and families, contributing to an unforgettable evening for the athletes and their loved ones.
